For much of my adult life, I have attempted to practice yoga on a regular basis. Then, about 12 years ago, I developed lower back issues. After a course of treatment with medication from my doctor and finishing physical therapy, and being told that I would probably have chronic back issues for the rest of my life, I decided to apply yoga as a healing tool.
This is when I met Susan O’Farrell, who at that time was teaching in Placerville. With her guidance I was able to strengthen my back and was inspired to begin a daily practice. Susan moved on, and I found my way to Donna Rixmann, who teaches in the El Dorado Hills / Folsom area.
Donna and I discovered that at we had both been inspired to delve deeper into yogic studies by the same teacher, Susan O’Farrell. It was through Donna’s inspiration and support that I was finally able to find the Teacher Training Program at the Sierra Center for Yogic Studies, headed by Bhavani Girard. I continue my studies in the vast world of yoga with workshops, and seminars, and various training. Special areas of study are in Yoga Therapy and Ayurvedic Medicine.
Yoga has helped me heal back issues, gain strength, flexibility and I am most grateful for the peace that I have been able to find in the practice of yoga and meditation. I am constantly amazed at how practical and applicable this 5000 year old practice is to our present daily lives.
Namaste!
